Canyon-rock quintet the Evergreen Blueshoes was formed in 1967 by singer/bassist Skip Battin and guitarist Al Rosenberg. Scouring local bars for additional personnel yielded guitarist Lanny Mathijsen and keyboardist Ken Kleist, and with the addition of drummer Chet McCracken, the lineup was complete.

  1. From the Finder menu, select Go > Connect to Server (Figure 1)
  2. Type smb://yourserver in the field (Figure 2)
    • examples:
    • smb://hurricane for faculty and staff file server
    • smb://orca for students and academic file shares (programs, groups, research, student)
  3. Click Connect
  4. Log in with your Evergreen account (Figure 3)
  5. Select the folder you want to connect to
    • Hurricane users - select the first letter of your last name, or workgroup share
    • Orca users - select programs (for academic programs), groups, research or students
  6. Click OK
  7. A network connection icon is mounted on the desktop.
    • Mac OS 10.6 users: the icon may not be mounted on the desktop, instead open a new finder window and locate the server from the 'Shared' list of servers (Figure 4)
  8. Once you are connected you can drag and drop files between your local hard drive and the network file space.
    • ALERT!: Never work over the network. Copy files down to your local hard drive before opening them.
  9. To disconnect, drag the network icon to the trash (or disconnect icon) on the dock.

Off-Campus Access

If you have Mac OS 10.4 or greater you should be able to easily connect from off campus as well.

  1. On the Finder menu, select Go > Connect to Server.
  2. Enter the URL of the file server you want to connect to.
    Server URL Example
    NOTE: It may be easier to first navigate to your folder in a web browser and then copy the url and paste into the connect to server field.

    • Orca students = https://myfiles.evergreen.edu/homes/students
    • Orca programs = https://myfiles.evergreen.edu/academics/programs/yourprogramfolder
    • Hurricane = https://myfiles.evergreen.edu/homes/fac-staff/first-letter-of-username/username
    • Hurricane = https://myfiles.evergreen.edu/offices/yourgroupfolder/'yoursubfolder'
    • Orca groups = https://myfiles.evergreen.edu/academics/acadgroups/yourgroupfolder
    • Orca research = https://myfiles.evergreen.edu/academics/research/yourresearchfolder
    • Note: you can also access this space from a web browser but you will not be able to write files back to the server only read.

  1. Click Connect

Note: Your firewall software might block the connection to the remote fileshare. If you can't connect to the filespace and have double-checked the instructions, you might need to add a firewall exemption for the fileshare.
